Campus Services & Perks to Make Your Life Easier

"The trouble with the rat race is that, even if you win,
you're still a rat." Lily Tomlin

Did you ever stop to think about how attending/working at IUPUI can help you better manage your time and help you in other ways? It really can! Here are just a few ways that working at/attending IUPUI can positively affect your life:

No Time to Shop?

Check out the IUPUI JAGS Bookstores for a selection of imprinted gifts and apparel, greeting cards, snacks and beverages, school and office supplies, and computer software and supplies (which can also be special ordered).  Make sure to join the Jags Bookstore’s new “Members” Program and receive an everyday 5% discount on all purchases, (excluding textbooks, trade books and software) as well as special discounts on promotional items and sales.   The main bookstores are located at Cavanaugh Hall (278-2665) and the Union Building (274-7167). The Jags Store located in the food court of University Place Hotel and Conference Center (920-2442) specializes in art supplies and sale items including imprinted gifts and apparel. The Columbus Bookstore caters to its campus. Visit http://bookstore.iupui.edu for more information.

The gift shop in the University Place Hotel and Conference Center and the hospital gift shops also offer many great options. You can see a partial listing of what the IU and Riley hospital gift shops have to offer by going to http://www.cheerguild.org.

Need to Mail a Package, Have a Letter Weighed or Buy Stamps?

Do you find that the hours at the post office in your neighborhood don't fit your schedule? Take your package to the campus Post Office located at 536 Barnhill Drive, between the Clinical Building and Long Hospital. They are open 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday (except major campus holidays). You can also order stamps by mail or online.

Need a Haircut?

There is a barber/beauty shop/tanning salon in University Place Hotel in the food court area. Walk-ins accepted, but appointments recommended. Call 274-8518.

Need Medical Attention?

In need of a flu shot? If you are an employee and bring with you a valid IU ID, the IU Occupational Health Clinic, located at 1140 West Michigan Street, Coleman Hall, Room 101 can help. They are open 7:30-5:00 all weekdays except Thursday when the hours are 9:00-5:00. Walk-ins accepted for emergencies and initial visits for work-related injuries, but call (274-5887) for an appointment for other employment-related services (e.g., worker's compensation related concerns, work-required immunizations, employment related examinations). The student health center is also located here.

Want to Save Money on Your Taxes?

If you are a full-time, appointed employee, sign up for the Tax Saver Benefit Plan in your first 60 days of employment or during open enrollment (or after a qualifying event such as addition of a dependent), and put away pre-tax dollars for childcare, eldercare and/or health-related expenses (contact lens solutions, insurance/prescription co-pays, eyeglasses and other items not covered by insurance). Call the IUPUI Benefits section at 274-4596 for more information or visit http://www.hra.iupui.edu and click on the Benefits and Retirement section.

Need to do Some Banking?

Do you find that your local bank's schedule does not work with your schedule? Set up an account at the Indiana Members Credit Union. There are branches in the Union Building and the VA Hospital on campus and many more in neighborhoods in Indianapolis and the surrounding area. Some neighborhood locations even have Saturday hours. Locations of Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) on campus include: 2nd floor of Union Building (near bookstore), Cavanaugh Hall (outside, north wall), Regenstrief, VA Hospital, IU Hospital, Riley Hospital, University Place Food Court and the University Library corridor. For more information, including maps to ATMs, visit their Web site at http://www.imcu.com. The campus branch can be reached at 636-8479.

Weather/Closing Information

Is the snow piling up and you're not sure if the campus is going to be open? Visit http://registrar.iupui.edu/adverseweather.html for the latest information.

Ready to Get Into Shape?

Need to lose weight or get more exercise but have limited time when you get home from work? Go to http://www.iupui.edu/~iupuirec to check out IUPUI Intramural & Recreational Sports opportunities; investigate the many opportunities of the IUPUI Sport Complex (Natatorium, Tennis Center and Track & Soccer Stadium) at http://www.sportcomplex.iupui.edu or peruse the options at the National Institute for Fitness and Sport (NIFS) at http://www.nifs.org/.

Need a Parking Permit?

Go online (www.parking.iupui.edu) instead of standing in line! Note: Students can now purchase a student parking permit, campus housing permit or disabled permit online, and parking permits can be purchased by the month, by the semester or by the year.

Public Safety/Personal Safety/Car Problem

Ever see something that appeared to be unsafe or suspicious? If so, call the IUPUI Police at 274-7911. Ever get in your car to go home and then realize that your car won't start or are you just concerned about your safety when leaving late? Call 274-SAFE (274-7233) and free help will soon be on its way.

Shuttle Service

Your spouse or child has the car today, you have to get from one end of the campus to the other and, of course, it's pouring down rain. What's the answer? Use the IUPUI shuttle service (available during academic year). Visit http://registrar.iupui.edu/campus-shuttle.html for campus and Herron shuttle information and Clarian PeopleMover information.

Planning Your Vacation?

You are planning your next vacation (ah, what a pleasant thought) and need information on the Fiji Islands? Burn a few calories by walking over to the Union Building and checking out what Ross & Babcock has to offer. They offer IUPUI employees a 12% discount on US Airways flights.
