Online Development

Managers and employees may take advantage of electronic resources, as well as web-based training opportunities. Using these tools in combination with the in-person training and development opportunities provided by HRA staff will help to ensure greater effectiveness for work units and individual employees.

Compliance and Policy- related tutorials:

Performance Management: The “Planning for Performance Management “training module covers the basics of what performance management is and how to begin its implementation for work units. This module can be viewed in its entirety in one setting, or in segments as needed. INSERT LINK HERE

FMLA and FLSA: As part of the compliance re-certification training program, these online tutorials are available for viewing at your convenience. Each module can be accessed and viewed in approximately 20 minutes. Additional time (approximately 15 minutes) is needed to complete the accompanying tests.

Corrective Action: This material is intended to serve as a guide for supervisors. IU policy states that disciplinary action will not be taken without just cause. The suggestions put forth in this program, while not formal policy, will assist the supervisor in determining if just cause (legitimate reason for discipline) exists and if so, what level of discipline is appropriate, and how to administer discipline. Additionally, the contents include recommended corrective action steps that may eliminate a performance problem without disciplinary action.

Professional Development tutorials and resources:

Customer Service (for Hourly Student Employees): This tutorial introduces you to the basics of quality customer service. It will take you approximately 20 minutes to complete.
Library and UITS specific modules are available.

Skillsoft: Indiana University and SkillSoft Learning, a global leader in providing technology-based training, have reached an agreement whereby students, faculty, and staff from all eight IU campuses may purchase access to SkillSoft self-study IT courses. Affiliated individuals can choose from course bundles covering common desktop applications, information technology professional courses, and business and professional development courses.

STEPS: IT Training & Education offers award-winning STEPS workshops on more than 80 information technology topics. STEPS workshops are available on both the Indiana University Bloomington and IUPUI campuses, and are open to the statewide IU community and the general public. STEPS are hands-on, instructor-led workshops in word processing, email, spreadsheets, databases, graphics, presentations, statistics, programming, multimedia and web development, and more. STEPS workshops range from introductory to advanced, and most last from 90 minutes to three hours each. Workshops are free to enrolled IU students, and are available to everyone else for a nominal fee. STEPS Certificate Series combine several STEPS workshops in sequential order; by attending a series of related workshops, you can earn certificates and increase your skills over time.

Library Holdings: IUCAT, Indiana University's online library catalog, contains records for more than five million items held by the IU Libraries statewide, including books, recordings, US government publications, periodicals, and other types of materials.

HRA has compiled a short non-comprehensive list of videos and books that may be especially helpful. Access it here.

How to Develop an Office Procedures Manual: For any employee who is ready to begin the process of writing a manual for the workplace.

Leading Meetings: The University of Wisconsin-Madison has developed a useful tool to apply for leading meetings. This site includes information on developing an agenda, ending and starting on time, as well as several other helpful practices.

IUPUI is Indiana's premier urban research university. The campus enrolls more than 30,000 students in 21 schools and academic units.
