New Employee Orientation

New Employee Orientation (NEO) establishes a positive beginning by providing a warm welcome, creating a sense of belonging, and building identification with IUPUI.  Whenever possible, new employees should attend the first orientation session following their appointment date.  This is critical for timely benefits enrollment.  Waiting too long can make employees ineligible for certain benefits and/or cause problems with large premium balances.  Most benefits require enrollment within 30 days of hire.  Our goal is for new employees to be fully enrolled in their desired benefits plans by the time they leave orientation.

When should I attend NEO?

Human Resources Administration will register you to attend orientation.  This date will be noted in the welcome letter in your benefit packet as well as the “starburst” on the packet envelope.  Sessions are held every Tuesday except holidays, the week of Thanksgiving, and the last two weeks in December.  To learn when your new hire will be attending orientation, click below:

Where is NEO?

Orientation is held in the Campus Center on the SW corner of Michigan Street and University Boulevard.  Orientation is typically held in Room 148.

Where should I park?

With a valid parking hangtag, surface lots are to the south of the Campus Center.  If you do not have an IUPUI parking hangtag, the Vermont Street garage is adjacent to the Campus Center on the west side.  You will have to pay to park in the garage.

What time is NEO?

8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Who should attend NEO?

Full-time, appointed staff employees attend all day; academic employees attend only the afternoon session; part-time staff employees attend only the morning session.

What should I expect at NEO?

Times are approximate.

8:30-9:50                     Welcome and history of IUPUI; key policy review
9:50-10:00                   Break
10:00-12:00                 General safety training
12:00-1:00                   Lunch
1:00-4:30                     Benefit overview and enrollment

Due to fluctuation in room temperature at orientation, we recommend that you dress in layers.  Lunch is on your own, and there is a food court location in the Campus Center with a variety of restaurants.

What should I bring to NEO?

The orientation checklist outlines the items you should bring with you.

IUPUI is Indiana's premier urban research university. The campus enrolls more than 30,000 students in 21 schools and academic units.
