This
policy applies to all appointed SM staff represented by AFSCME,
Local 1477. |
|
Eligibility
|
When
the responsibilities of a higher classified position are employee
is temporarily assigned to handle the responsibilities of
another classified position, the employee, may receive a
temporary pay adjustment, provided that the department can may
be made if all of the following conditions are met:
- The
position is vacated for reasons other than vacation.
- The position
is vacant for at least a full pay
period
- The
work is assigned in full and solely performed by the
temporary incumbent.
- The
temporary incumbent holds a lower classified position.
- The
temporary incumbent is capable of carrying out the
responsibilities of the higher classified position.

Temporary
pay rate
|
If
all of the above conditions are met, departments may make
temporary pay adjustments may be made. Departments may consult
with Human Resources Administration or refer to the Pay
Practices Guide to determine the pay adjustment. A Staff
Personnel and Payroll Action form (PAF) must be completed to
identify the temporary rate of pay. |

Temporary pay for training |
Employees assigned by supervisors to train (other than
orientation) an employee in a higher classification for a pay
period or more shall be eligible for a temporary pay adjustment.
The temporary pay adjustment must be approved in advance by the
department head. |

High
Pay
|
High
pay will be in effect as follows:
- Use
of bosun chair, swing stage or rope chair
- Use
of belts on outside windows
- Use
of scaffold: one section (6 feet) or higher
- Use
of a ladder: two sections or more or to the second floor
height inside and outside
High
pay does not apply to any permanent structure nor does it apply
to using a permanently fixed ladder to climb to a flat, guarded
surface to work. It only applies to working from temporary
structures or appliances 6 feet or higher.
Employees
are paid high pay of an additional $.75 per hour for time
actually spent working from these types of structures or
appliances.

Confined
space pay |
Appointed
employees working in a permit-required confined space will be
paid a premium of $1.50 per hour for time actually spent working
in the confined space. University administration will determine
the confined spaces that meet the OSHA definition and require a
permit. Employees must have completed the safety training on
confined spaces to be eligible for this premium.
