Philosophy
|
The
university recognizes employees’ rights to engage in political
activities and to participate in community, state, and national
programs.
|
| Policy |
Staff
can participate in political activity as long as it does not
conflict with their work performance. In their participation,
staff must make it clear that they are acting as a private citizen
and that they do not represent the university.
|
| Guidelines |
The
following are guidelines for political activity.
- Staff
may not use university property (computers, telephones,
stationery, etc.) for political activities.
- If
political activities prevent an employee from fully
accomplishing his or her job responsibilities, the person must
request a leave of absence for the period of activity.
- If
political participation affects an employee’s job duties,
the person must inform the department head.
- If
an employee and an administrative officer disagree about the
employee’s ability to fulfill university obligations, the
person can appeal through the grievance procedure.
