2. Only
the Board of Trustees or the president of the university may
grant special holidays other than the nine listed above. |
|
|
B. Religious
holidays |
1. Departments
should make reasonable accommodations in the work schedules of
staff who want time off to observe a bona fide religious holiday
that is not in the above list. Supervisors may allow staff to
take time off without pay or rearrange their schedule to make up
for missed work time.
- Staff
can also use accrued vacation, sick, or compensatory time to
cover the absence.
|
|
C. Campus
Holiday |
1.
At IUPUI, the Campus Holiday
is Good Friday. Academic areas have the option to schedule the
Campus Holiday during Spring Break.
2.
If academic
areas exercise this option, employees who work on the Campus
Holiday are paid at the regular rate of pay and receive
equivalent time off on a mutually agreeable date. These
employees do not then receive Holiday Incentive Pay (HIP) when
working on Good Friday. |
|
D. Eligibility
for paid holidays |
1. To
receive holiday pay, employees must meet the following criteria:
a. Be
on appointment (50% FTE or greater) prior to a holiday.
i. Each
holiday is considered to be eight hours for full-time, appointed
staff and is prorated by FTE for part-time, appointed staff.
b. Be
in pay status either the day before or the day following the
holiday.
2. Staff
who are appointed on a day following a holiday do not
receive pay for the holiday.
3. Staff
who return from a leave of absence on a day following a holiday
do not receive pay for the holiday.
4.
Staff who
terminate on a day immediately before a holiday (which falls on
the next workday) do receive pay for the holiday. |
|
E. When IU observes holidays |
1.
If a legal holiday falls on a
Sunday, the holiday is observed on the Monday immediately
following the holiday.
2. If
a legal holiday falls on a Saturday, the holiday is observed on
the Friday immediately preceding the holiday.
3. Staff
who work in a seven-day operation observe the holiday on the
nationally recognized day, if they are required to work that
day.
- An
employee whose regular day off is both the observed and the
legal holiday will receive eight (8) hours off with pay at a
mutually agreeable date, except that it must be used by the
end of the last full pay period in December of the next year
and is not paid if not used.
|
|
F. Compensation
when staff work on observed holidays |
1. When
SM staff must work on the Friday after Thanksgiving or Martin
Luther King, Jr. Day, they receive regular pay plus
equivalent time off on a mutually agreeable date. Staff do not
receive Holiday Incentive Pay (HIP) for working on these
holidays.
2. When
SM staff must work on any of the other university observed
holidays, they receive payment at a rate of pay equal to one and
one-half times the regular rate (Holiday Incentive Pay) plus
equivalent time off on a mutually agreeable date. See the
exception under section, “Campus Holiday.”
3.
Departments
cannot grant time off for a holiday in advance of the date on
which the holiday falls.
4. Staff
must take time off by the end of the last full pay period in
December of the next year or they lose it.
5.
In a seven-day operation, when the holiday falls on a Sunday,
staff receive Holiday Incentive Pay plus Sunday premium.
