Things a Victim Can Do to Prepare

Create a "safety signal" that will alert a neighbor to call the police.

Pack a bag with a change of clothes for you/children; address book with phone numbers of friends, relatives, doctor, attorney; money (include change for pay phone); extra keys to house and car; emergency medicines; important papers/information (checking/savings account numbers, copy of mortgage/lease; copy of no-contact order/protective order, birth certificates, social security numbers for yourself, children and partner, TANF/Medicaid cards, etc.)

If there is a fire station in your area, check to see if they provide a "safe place" for domestic violence victims - most do.
